Hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy S at Google I/O

Samsung announced their flagship Samsung Galaxy S at CTAI a few months ago, but it seems like no one has been able to get their hands on the device sicne then. Fortunately for us, Samsung has a small booth at this year’s Google I/O conference in San Francisco, so we got the chance to play around with the device a little.

As you may already know, the Galaxy S runs on Android 2.1, features a 1GHz processor and is equipped with Samsung’s new Super ALOMED display (measuring in a 4 inches). To be honest, the handset looks and feels very similar to the iPhone 3G S. To Android fans, that may be a step in the wrong direction, but for everyone else out there who is drooling over the iPhone, it gives them a clear (and somewhat better) alternative. The TouchWiz 3.0 UI is a much better experience than what we have seen on the Behold 2, giving users many tools to customize the look and feel on the home screen. We still have no indication on when the Samsung Galaxy S will be available, but their reps did mention that they are planning a global release of the fun which should kick off this summer.
