Samsung Omnia II Sets Guinness World Record

Back in December 15, 2009, we told you that Swype secured $5.6 million in financing via Nokia Growth Partners, Samsung Ventures, and Benaroya Capital.  In case you didn’t know, Swype allows user to input text faster and easier on any touchscreen.  In fact, Swype claims that a user can enter text at over 40 words per minute!  It is a claim that hasn’t been tested….until now.

Franklin Page, an employee of Swype, set the Guiness World Record for the fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile phone.  Using the Samsung Omnia II, Page successfully texted the phrase “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world.  In reality they seldom attack a human.”  His time?  A whopping 35.54 seconds!  Franklin Page’s performance was judge by Stuart Claxton, who is also an official Guiness World Records adjudicator.

Franklin Page’s accomplishment is so successful that Samsung decided to market it as a commercial.  Check out the video below!
