Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700 heading to T-Mobile UK
For one month, T-Mobile has exclusive rights to sell the Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700, plus exclusive rights to sell the black model for the next three months. Now you might be wondering why the Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700 sounds and looks so familiar. Well, that’s because the Galaxy Portal isn’t exactly a new phone, it’s actually the same phone as the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700.
So what of kind of features does this phone have? Well, for starters the phone is powered by Android 1.5, but Samsung has promised an update in the near future. The phone itself is only 13.2mm thick but it does feature a 3.2 inch screen. It also includes a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, video support (MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV, and DivX), 180MB of internal memory, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and GPS.
The Galaxy Portal will also ship with a very cool application called Layar. According to Layar developers, “Layar is a free application on your mobile phone which shows what is around you by displaying real time digital information on top of reality through the camera of your mobile phone.” To use it, you hold your phone in front of you like a camera and then information is displayed on top of the camera display view.
The T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700 will be free with a £18 monthly contract.
