Samsung and Nokia investing in Swype’s Patented Text Input for Screens

Swype has just announced today that it has secured $5.6 million in financing via Nokia Growth Partners, Samsung Ventures, and Benaroya Capital. Swype’s patented technology provides a faster and easier way to input text on any touchscreen. Just how fast is it? It’s so fast that the company boasts that a user can enter text at over 40 words per minute!
With this new financing, Swype is going to push their technology into more mobile phones and other touch and remote screen devices. Currently, this technology is only found in one mobile phone, the Samsung Omnia II. With this new investment, both Samsung and Nokia are clearly looking to expand their lineups to include more touchscreen devices. In fact, Samsung has been in the process of designing TouchWiz, which is an entire user interface that is geared towards touchscreen phones.
